ABSTRACT
Introduction Although sealing vascular disruption is the main physiological activity of platelets, they are multifunctional cells and participate in several other processes that are of increasing interest. Besides arresting bleeding by the hemostatic plug, platelets have an important role in other physiological (recruitment of other blood cells, endothelial integrity, wound healing, inflammation) or pathological processes (atherosclerosis, inflammation, transplant rejection) (1).
