ABSTRACT
The Alan Guttmacher Institute in New York estimates that
a woman now entering her fertile years will on average have
one abortion. Yet abortion is as controversial as it is com-
mon. The very term ‘abortion’ conjures up many opinions –
whether it is safe or unsafe, legal or illegal, right or wrong.
