ABSTRACT
U.S. demographics are undergoing striking changes that will affect the practice of public health in the immediate and distant future. These changes include an increase in the number of people who live in poverty, are older, belong to ethnic or racial minority groups, have disabilities, and have diverse sexual orientations. These demographics will influence definitions of aging, health, and illness and will challenge current prevention and treatment models.
