ABSTRACT

Soil erosion refers to a series of processes leading to soil depletion in situ and the export of sediment toward downstream areas. ¤is chapter will try to identify the main processes and their interrelationship with soil and soil properties. Some extremely important factors in the denition of soil behavior, such as vegetation, land use and wildre, land leveling, and tillage erosion will be brie¥y discussed. ¤e focus of this chapter is on processes of soil erosion rather than soil erosion models, each of which would require a chapter to itself. Our objective here is to review current scientic understanding of the processes that are important from the standpoint of soil science and soil observation, rather than the sum of their parts as described by a model.
