ABSTRACT
Recent decades have witnessed a worldwide energy crisis, derived from irreversible depletion of fossil fuels; their use as a major form of energy supply-namely, for internal combustion enginesis sustainable, besides their net contribution to atmospheric greenhouse gases (GHGs) that bring about global warming. Carbon-neutral renewable liquid biofuels are indeed needed to displace petroleum-derived fuels in the near future.
