ABSTRACT

Here for your enjoyment, or perhaps amusement, we present what we consider surgical pearls in no particular order other than the order in which they appear in this book.

You do not have to shave the area when operating on the scalp. Although the repair takes a little longer to pick out the hairs if you do not shave the surgical site, the patients are very appreciative that the hair covers the site post repair. If you don’t shave the hair around the surgical site be sure to use a suture color that is easily seen and leave the tails longer than usual for easy removal. See Figures 1A.1-2 (Scalp) and 2A.1-2 (Advancement).
