ABSTRACT

This chapter is about making electricity from water power. More specifically, this chapter describes renewable, sustainable, and efficient energy production at the micro level in conduit hydropower systems. Conduit hydropower refers to the generation of hydroelectric power in existing tunnels, canals, aqueducts, pipelines, flumes, ditches, or similar humanmade water conveyances that have been equipped with electricity-generating equipment. Before we discuss microhydropower applications in detail, you first need to know something about how water behaves, water hydraulics (computations), and hydropower applications on the macro and micro scales.
