chapter  15
Solar Power
Pages 22

Solar power is one of the most promising renewable energy sources today. Solar cells, also known as photovoltaic (PV) cells, convert sunlight directly into electricity. They can generate electricity with no moving parts, they can be operated quietly with no emissions, they require little maintenance, and they are ideal for remote locations. If these advantages outweigh a few disadvantages associated with the use of solar cells-good weather and location are essential, although they require little maintenance they are difficult to repair, and their initial cost is high-they may be considered a good fit as auxiliary and supplemental power sources (ASPSs) for water treatment plants (WTPs) and wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs).
