ABSTRACT

Chapter 18 presents the direct (DIR) technique for analyzing the basic sampled-data control system [1,2]. Generally, gain adjustment alone is not sufficient to achieve the desired system performance specifications, that is, the figures of merit (FOM) (see Sections 6.9 and 6.10). A cascade and/or feedback compensator (controller) can be used to accomplish the design objectives. This chapter presents the design process for satisfying the specified values of the conventional control theory FOM by using a cascade or a feedback controller.
