ABSTRACT

The plastics industry is still relatively young and growing, and it has a broad mixture of company cultures. As older companies of the industry grow in size or consolidate, or follow local customers to other parts of the country or of the world, their business cultures undergo changes. As a rule, polymer production has been parented by basic chemical or petrochemical companies; as a result, polymer manufacturing is usually associated with big company, managerial, and commodity cultures. Compounding, processing, and distribution, on the other hand, are most frequently found to have smallcompany, entrepreneurial cultures.
