ABSTRACT

Yasuda, et al [11] obtained a thermal crown prediction model by applying the heat balance integral method [12,13] to calculate heat transfer by conduction in a work roll. This model is based on the following assumptions:

• Temperature is specified as a function of time t and distance x from the roll center (Fig. 19.10a). • Heat is removed by convection from the surface of the roll and simultaneously generated in the roll

where the strip makes contact.
