ABSTRACT
Signal averaging - The signal averaging technique utilizes the fact that the standard deviation of random noise decreases as portions of the signal are added together and averaged. This method is applied to the information which is presented in periodic form, for example, a sinusoid, square wave, repetitive step, etc. The signal averaging process leads to an increased time of measurement which is "traded" for an increased signal-to-noise ratio.
