ABSTRACT

As mentioned early, the rocking motion of the sizing press tools smooths the edged surfaces of the slab by eliminating the indentations that are produced when a start-stop motion of the press tool is employed. This smoothing process is clearly depicted in Fig. 15.20 in which Fig. 15.20a corresponds to Fig. 15.19a, and Fig. 15.20b corresponds to Fig. 15.19b. During pressing, the contact length between the slab and the press tools gradually changes from the length L 0 (Fig. 15.20a) at the beginning of the pressing cycle to the length Le (Fig. 15.20b) at the end of the cycle.
