InthemethodproposedbyHitachi[12],bucklingofathinslabcanbepreventedbyconveyingthe slaboveraturningroll,sothattheslabiscurvedatacertaincontactangleasshowninFig.16.16.Both backandfronttensionareappliedtothethinslabforcingtheslabagainsttheturningroll.Thisassures stabilityoftheslabwhileitisbeingsqueezedwiththepresstoolslocatedabovetheturningroll.
