ABSTRACT

Background Breastfeeding has a wide range of health benets for mothers and children and is a key protective factor against childhood overweight and obesity [1-4]. e current World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation for breastfeeding is that all infants should be exclusively breastfed for the rst six months of life, and receive nutritionally adequate and safe complementary foods while breastfeeding continues for up to two years of age or beyond [2]. e WHO recommendations have been adopted and endorsed by many countries including Australia [3,5].
