This paper presents a new methodology which is an important part of the contributions of the research project for a PhD in Design. The aim of the research was to define and emphasize the importance of a pertinent color application to urban furniture, arguing that it may contribute for a better visualization of these elements and, consequently, to ameliorate its use. The study also addresses the issue of the color application to urban furniture in the city environment, mainly for city areas identification and how its use may increment the orientation within the city, becoming color a mapping and wayshowing factor. The development and implementation of the new methodology will allow the determination, with a higher scientific approach and rigor, the color planning to be applied to urban furniture in each quarter, or urban area, of a city.
