that may occur after bariatric surgery. Although the published literature remains limited regarding drug dosing in obese individuals and bariatric patients, basic pharmacokinetic principles can generally be applied. These data from studies and case reports are used to guide modification of dosage regimens and pharmaceutical formulation choices. The impact of bariatric surgery on drug and nutrient absorption is determined by the type of surgery performed, which will be highlighted in this chapter. The effect of surgery on vitamin, mineral, and micronutrient status is primarily covered in the chapters devoted to those specific nutrients elsewhere in this text.
