chapter  33
Future Progress in Membrane Engineering
Pages 22

The concept of process intensication is based on the aim to design and implement innovative, low-cost, nonpolluting, defect-free, and safe industrial production processes, whose realization would support globally the consistent reduction of pollutant emissions, a more rational and sustainable exploitation of natural resources, and the improved quality of life [1-4]. This strategy has been put in practice by the development of technologies and operations that are small, compact, and efcient and that reduce energy consumption, material use, and waste production, while creating increased standard and product quality in many chemical and related industries such as petroleum, pharmaceutical, agriculture, food, health, environment, textile, and electronics.
