ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the mechanical aspects of tumor growth with the aim of providing a point of departure for new directions, as well as further studies along some of the established lines of work. Experimental studies are reviewed rst, in order to set the stage for the rest of the chapter. This is followed by a description of modeling approaches, with a focus on the continuum aspects. The chapter ends with an outline of recent studies in our group on continuum mechanical models of growth that also account for some of the reaction-transport phenomena.
