Upland gully erosion and its effects “Upland” is here defined as being at a higher elevation than local stream valleys and includes farms on high terraces. Many farms located entirely on level to very mild upland slopes, especially in Region I, perhaps saw few major problems during this destructive period. Of course, the runoff from their fields cascaded down slopes and valleys to farms below, where it did create problems in many cases.
