ABSTRACT

We report here an evaluation of the cytotoxicity of CSCs produced under eight different conditions as part of a research program to develop data for the range of biological effects for a diverse set of CSCs. The genotoxicity of the same CSCs studied here has been previously published (DeMarini 1981, DeMarini et al. 2008). The cytotoxicity of these CSCs was assessed in primary lung cells, using a novel in vitro model for toxicity evaluation: the Integrated Discrete Multiple Organ Coculture (IdMOC) experimental system (Li et al. 2004, 2012, Li 2007a,b, 2008, 2009). The IdMOC utilizes a wells-in-a-well concept, allowing the coculturing of multiple cell types as physically discrete cultures that can interact through a common overlaying medium.
