ABSTRACT

Like the rest of the human body, the human eye undergoes several changes due to ageing. These anatomical and physiological processes follow either a gradual decrease or a gradual increase. There is a difference between disease and the changes that occur due to eye ageing, although the visual impairments caused by the latter may be similar to but less important than the ones caused by the former. It is widely acknowledged that the scientific community has placed more emphasis on understanding and treating diseases that cause blindness, such as glaucoma, than on studying the effects of ageing on the eye.
