ABSTRACT
While toxicology is most generally concerned with chemical hazards, there is one type of physical hazard that also falls within its scope: radiation. This chapter will examine the nature of the different types of radiation and the effects of both shortand long-term radiation exposures on biological tissues. We will also examine some of the circumstances under which radiation exposure might typically occur, as well as a case study of accidents leading to radiation exposures.
