ABSTRACT

It is estimated that three billion hours per week are spent playing video games worldwide.297 Video games are about dynamic interaction with a system or other players with rules, creating windows for ambient diagnoses in an exciting, ubiquitous, and affordable process. Widely available mobile platforms and new tools have enabled game design, production, and distribution through smartphones, over the web, and via downloadable services. Now, it is possible for individuals to conceive, develop, and publish their own games. This chapter explores how to design video games for diagnostic purposes. In particular,

• Trend of games for diagnosis • Elements of a game engine • Networked games • Finite-state machine (FSM) • Motion capture and control • Game displays • Game development tool kits

There are many categories of video games. Here, we only focus on three categories: perception-action processes, social interactions, and crowdsourcing.
