ABSTRACT

In a civilised society, it is the right and duty of every man and woman to work in order to earn an adequate living to support themselves and their families and ensure their independence from the State. It is the duty of the State to provide appropriate opportunities for them to do so, to ensure that such work is without detriment to their health or risk to their safety and to support those who, though no fault of their own, cannot work. That these things are not always possible or do not otherwise occur is both a failing of and a challenge to our society. Preventing work-related stress and associated ill health is a part of that challenge.
