ABSTRACT

In the conclusion to the third edition of this book, John Annett (2005) described the evolution of ergonomics as a science from its heritage in military and engineering contexts. He noted that a discipline that was once focused on the development of methods to make quantitative predictions of human capabilities now considered broader and more applied concepts such as teamwork and communication and worked more closely with subject areas such as human-computer interaction. This evolution has continued and is reected in the new content within this volume, as well as the change in emphasis of many of the chapters included in this text.
