ABSTRACT

A magic system is any set of rules and symbols designed to rigorously simulate the alteration of reality through the will by way of metaphysical forces and entities. In order to simulate magic in a game, magic must be dened in part by rules. For example, a rule might specify that a player (or a computer) should roll two six-sided dice in order to calculate the amount of damage from a re projectile. Another rule might demand that a player is unable to cast a spell if he has fewer than ve mana points. A set of consistent, complete, internally consistent rules governing magic is part of a magic system.
