ABSTRACT

The path to investigate the severity of wax deposition in eld pipelines begins with a study of the key thermodynamic parameters involved in wax precipitation. This study provides the basic knowledge of wax precipitation that will enable us to make predictions of wax deposition. In this chapter, various experimental techniques will be used to characterize two key thermodynamic parameters involved in wax deposition from crude oils: the wax appearance temperature (WAT) and the wax precipitation curve (WPC). In Chapter 3, theoretical modeling of wax deposition will be introduced to extend our knowledge of wax deposition to pressures and temperatures similar to those found in eld operations.
