ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the measure of dissimilarity between two irregular polygons. Polygons are normalized to have either the same area or the same perimeter. The dissimilarity measure is used for classification of a closed boundary into one of a finite number of classes. The results of classification of closed boundaries are used in the area of automatic recognition of characters, industrial parts, maps, and airplanes. The suggested references are not exhaustive.
