ABSTRACT

Over the past few years, the business world has become increasingly focused on data. The collection, storage, processing, analysis, and deployment of data are taking over larger fractions of IT budgets. Businesses in every industry are launching big data initiatives. This trend is a result of the success of numerous organizations that over the past 10 years have used the data they collect to drive their business. The result is organizations that operate more efficiently and that have gained a defensible advantage over their competitors. The success of these organizations’ use of data leads us to ask how we can measure the intrinsic value of data.
