ABSTRACT
Preview Activity 34.1. In Investigations 1 – 4, we learned about divisibility, greatest common
divisors, and prime factorization in the integers. In this investigation, we will tie all of these ideas
together to investigate an interesting and important application: encryption. The system we will
study is one that is commonly used to transmit sensitive data over the internet. Its security rests
on an important observation that should become apparent as you attempt to complete the following
tasks.
