ABSTRACT

Case histories are provided for hydrothermal gold, porphyry copper, and kimberlites/ diamond exploration. In all instances, these are integrated programs in the sense that airphotos or satellite imagery are combined with eld spectra acquisition, eld mapping, and analysis of other sensor system products, notably aeromagnetics and digital elevation models (DEMs). In mineral exploration, the emphasis in most cases is on mapping alteration rather than stratigraphy. Structure, however, remains important: faults and fracture zones provide the pathways for intrusion and hydrothermal uids that carry the minerals of interest and cause the alteration. The following case histories show mineral exploration applications of remote sensing.
