ABSTRACT

Before describing karate in general, the reader should know the dierence between dierent forms of karate. e rst form of karate is the Classical/ Japanese or points system of karate. In this type of karate, the ghter’s goal is to score with punching, striking, or kicking the vital targets. is form of karate is a point system and/or noncontact karate. e attacker must withhold his punching st or kicking leg in front of the vital area of the target. e withholding distance should be 2-4 cm (1-1.5 in.). e attack must be executed with vigor, high speed, and power in order to be considered as a destructive force.
