Even though the need for a careful management of human resources is not surprising, there are some barriers that prevent a successful HR management, such as cultural diversity, establishing globally consistent HR processes, and promoting mobility between countries (Guthridge and Komm, 2008). Findings of a more recent research on the issue of managing at global scale (Aquila, Dewhurst, and Heywood, 2012) show that over a third of interviewed respondents stated that a key element to improve operations on a global basis is to develop culturally and functionally proficient leaders.
