ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is an emerging technology of controlling matter on the scale of 1-100 nm [1]. It involves many disciplines and technologies, such as electric engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, and machinery. With the development of Internet of Things (IoT) and nanotechnology, the fusion of the two will make a great difference to society. Nanotechnology promises new solutions as well as injects new vitality to IoT. On the one hand, nanotechnology brings new solutions to the sensor-actuator layer, network layer, and application layer by creating new kinds of sensors and actuators, high-bandwidth and energy-efficient communication channels, and high-performance application platforms. On the other hand, nanotechnology opens up a new nanoscale territory for future IoT, and helps to realize the Internet of everything. The following is a discussion on how nanotechnology is propelling IoT development from three aspects: ubiquitous sensing and controlling, communication network, and high-performance computing (HPC).
