ABSTRACT

History A 65-year-old man is referred to the medical assessment unit with a 2-month history of progressive shortness of breath and left-sided chest pain. He has had a chronic cough, but more recently has been coughing up blood-stained sputum. His wife also mentioned that his appetite has diminished and feels he may have lost weight over the preceding months. He has seen the GP previously who started him on an inhaler with little noticeable benefit in symptoms.
