ABSTRACT

History A 24-year-old gentleman attends A&E complaining of left-sided chest pain which started while he was watching television. The pain came on suddenly, was sharp in nature, did not radiate and was worse on movement and deep breathing. He has felt short of breath since the pain started, but was able to walk into the department. He thinks he had a similar pain before but not as severe and did not seek medical advice previously. He is normally fit and well. He has a family history of ischemic heart disease. There are no allergies and he takes no regular medicines or illicit drugs. He smokes 20 cigarettes a day and drinks alcohol at weekends.
