ABSTRACT

A 32-year-old man was admitted to a psychiatric ward one week earlier for inpatient treatment of acute psychosis. He was managed with haloperidol 5 mg intramuscularly every 8 hours and lorazepam 1 mg p.r.n for sedation. He had been progressing well up until yesterday, when he complained of progressive dysphagia and muscle stiffness. Over the course of the day he developed a temperature (38.5°C) and has became increasingly drowsy.
