ABSTRACT

A 69-year-old woman has presented to the emergency department with a two-day history of severe right upper quadrant abdominal pain. This was colicky in nature initially but has now progressed to constant abdominal pain. Her pain is associated with dark urine, and her children noticed she had yellow discolouration on her skin and her eye in the morning when they came to visit her. She also reports poor oral intake over the past week and has felt feverish with rigor since yesterday. She was previously fit and well.
