ABSTRACT

Scaffolds used for tissue engineering include both biologic and synthetic materials. Some common biologic materials include decellularized extracellular matrix and puri¦ed natural polymers such as collagen and ¦brin. Common synthetic materials for tissue engineering include polylactic acid, polyglycolic acid, and their copolymers. Despite the diversity of scaffolds in use, there are very few off-the-shelf commercially available scaffolds. Those that do exist are expensive and are limited in their geometry and composition.
