ABSTRACT

The term ‘catarrh’ means different things to different patients and you need to be particular in finding out what a patient might mean when they use this term. The key questions to ask are:

l Do you blow much out? l Please can you point with one finger the area where you

feel it? l Does it make you sniff, snort, dry swallow or hawk? l Is it clear, yellow or green and is that mainly first thing

in the morning? l Is it at the level of [the palate] or at the [cricoid cartilage]?
