The wasted hand

This is usually a chronic condition and patients present with weakness of the hand(s)

or numbness/tingling. They may have noticed the muscle wasting.

The small muscles of the hand are supplied by the median and ulnar nerves and the

C8/T1 roots. In a root lesion, all the small muscles are affected; in a single peripheral

nerve lesion, wasting is selective.
