ABSTRACT

Networked cellular manufacturing systems The automated control of manufacturing devices on a common communications network is becoming a necessity for cellular manufacturing. The Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) protocols represent a major effort by a group of companies toward meeting this need and apparently is becoming a standard for factory-floor communications. Cellular manufacturing is in transition, moving from the traditional approach that relies on independent fixed-automation machines to a more flexible and systematic approach that can adapt and move rapidly with consumers’ changing demands.
