ABSTRACT

The routing/forwarding tables employed by the routers can be generated either statically or dynamically. Static tables are generated by the system administrator while the establishment of dynamic tables is performed by the routing protocols, which generate the tables. Routing tables can be maintained by periodic updates or triggered updates in response to link changes. Dynamic routing protocols have the advantage of discovering new paths when links are disconnected or added, and network IP address information is provided by an administrator so that routers can discover the routing tables.
