ABSTRACT

Clubbing (Fig. 2.1) changes encompass: (1) increased transverse and longitudinal curvature of the nails; (2) enlargement of the soft tissue structures confi ned to the fi ngertips; (3) abnormal mobility of the base of the nail which can be rocked back and forth giving the impression that it is fl oating on a soft edematous pad; and (4) local cyanosis (60% of the cases).
