ABSTRACT
Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg are three parliamentary monarchies located in the middle of Europe. The history of these rather small territories has been intertwined for several centuries. Historically known as the Low Countries, they were alternatively under the domination of several other countries such as France, Austria, and Spain. The borders we know today were progressively xed during the course of the nineteenth century.
