ABSTRACT

Acrylonitrile (vinyl cyanide), CH2=CHCN, which is mainly produced by the reaction of propylene and ammonia, is one of the most important monomers of the polymer industry. Its polymer, polyacrylonitrile (PAN), is important for the production of synthetic fibers. Acrylonitrile in combination with other monomers (mainly butadiene) is also used for the preparation of synthetic rubbers [1-4].
