ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology is based on self-organization of nanosize particles resulting in the improvement of material properties and obtaining of products and items with unique characteristics. The perspective of the chapter is the modification of silicates and liquid glass with nanocomposites containing metal clusters. The interest to liquid glass is conditioned, first of all, by its ecological friendliness and then followed by production and application simplicity, inflammability and nontoxicity, biological stability, and raw material availability. Nanostructures can be used to improve such characteristics of paints as elasticity, adhesion to the base, hydrophobic behavior, and also helps solving the problems connected with coating flaking off from the base, discoloration, limited color range, and so on. Due to the unique properties of nanostructures, we can apply new properties to silicate paints, for example, to produce the coating, which protects electromagnetic action.
