ABSTRACT

Portable computers have been commercially available since the early 1980s. Their emergence has been the product of both advancements in computer technology and a drive toward devices that are smaller and more easily transportable. Apart from their characteristic portability, LCs have added advantage of being both space saving and energy saving [Saito et al 1997]. These characteristics made them perfectly suited for the small ‘onsite’ tasks for which they were initially intended [Straker et al 1997].
