ABSTRACT

Loot is a leading free advertisement paper in the UK. The Free Ads department employs approximately 170 members of staff-the majority of whom are involved in copytaking-inputting adverts received via post, fax, mail, live telephone, recorded telephone messages and e-mail (these staff are referred to as ad takers). This work is repetitive in nature and often involves working to deadlines. Workstations are shared, rather than owned by ad takers, as space in the department is limited. Loot early on recognized the potential for their employees to develop WRULDs (work related upper limb disorders) as a result of this work.
